GETTING TO KNOW HANNAH + BRI
Q: What is the most memorable alpenglow you've witnessed?
Hannah: I did a solo backpacking trip when I was pregnant with my first daughter and remember waking up in the morning to an absolutely gorgeous alpenglow and thinking I cannot wait to share the beauty of the mountains and wild spaces with my children.
Bri: We were on a family ski trip to Whistler when the girls were pretty little. I had both of them with me walking back after a fun day of skiing and all of a sudden, the evening light was just right and the mountains lit up in front of us in all the shades of pink, purple and blue.
Q: What is your absolute favorite item in the shop and why?
Hannah: We have been waiting to bring in handmade garden harvesting trugs from a company in Oregon. While they are not here yet, I already know that they will be an incredibly special heirloom item that will bring whomever gets one incredible joy. I tend to be drawn to utilitarian items that are both functional and beautiful. Life is too short to not be surrounded by beauty. I cannot wait for them to arrive!
Bri: I love our little antique letterpress in the shop. As a letterpress printer, I wanted to give our customers a chance to get their hands a bit inky, and make something of their own. As far as an item we sell, I would pick our collection of rolling pins. They are utilitarian, made from beautiful woods and each has a different flair. Being a baker for the majority of my life, I find great joy in rolling out dough, knowing something delicious is around the corner.
Q: Had you ever worn a dirndl before this years Maifest?
Hannah - Ha! Yes. I actually lived in Switzerland for 3 years when I was in high school and college, so got to experience life in the Alps first hand. This was my first time wearing a Dirndl with my two daughters though - a memory I will hold dear!
Bri: Indeed, my first dirdl wearing experience was Maifest this year for the parade. It was fun to be a part of this Leavenworth tradition with all the girls. Actually, I take that back, Hannah and I made "homemade" dirndls last year for the Oktoberfest Pickleball Tournament, that I my opinion, were highly fashionable, although they did not help our game!
Q: What is your favorite season and why?
Hannah - I love so many things about where we live, but one of my favorite things is that we get 4 seasons. I love them all for a variety of reasons and don't think I could pick a favorite. But if I had to pick a favorite element of each season it would be: Spring - ephemeral wildflowers, Summer - time in the high country, Fall - garden harvests and slower days, Winter - XC skiing and fires in our wood-burning stove.
Bri: Echoing Hannah, I also love the changing seasons...each one has a place in my heart. However, I think Fall may be my favorite. All of the work in the garden from the spring and summer is harvested in the Fall. The trees are bursting with color, life has slowed a bit, soups are on and knitting projects stuffed under my bed, have come back into rotation.
